Common Malfunctions and Solutions of Safety Protection Devices for Air Classifying Mills
I.Dust Collection Systems
Common Malfunctions
Clogging:One of the most prevalent issues is clogging.Over time, fine powder particles accumulate in the ducts, filters,or cyclones of the dust collection system.High humidity can cause the powder to agglomerate, further exacerbating the problem. This blockage reduces the system's efficiency in capturing and removing dust, leading to increased dust emissions in the workplace.
Filter Damage:Filters in the dust collection system can get damaged due to abrasion from sharp particles in the air stream,or excessive pressure differences across the filter.Once damaged, they can no longer effectively trap dust, allowing unfiltered air to escape.
Solutions
Regular Cleaning:Implement a regular cleaning schedule for the dust collection system.Use compressed air to blow out ducts and cyclones, and for filters, follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning or replacement. In case of agglomerated powder, gentle mechanical agitation or lowheat drying might be needed to break up the clumps before cleaning.
Filter Inspection and Replacement:Routinely inspect filters for signs of wear, tears,or holes.Replace damaged filters promptly.Consider upgrading to more durable filter materials if abrasion is a chronic problem.
II.Overheating Protection Devices
Common Malfunctions
False Alarms:Sometimes, overheating protection devices may trigger false alarms. This can be due to a malfunctioning sensor, perhaps because of dirt or moisture interfering with its accurate temperature sensing capabilities.Incorrect calibration during installation or after maintenance can also cause the device to misread the temperature.
Failure to Alarm:On the contrary, there are cases where the overheating protection device fails to alarm when the actual temperature rises dangerously. This could be the result of a broken sensor wire,a blown fuse in the alarm circuit,or a malfunctioning control unit.
Solutions
Sensor Cleaning and Calibration:Clean the temperature sensors gently with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dirt or moisture. Then, recalibrate the sensors according to the manufacturer's guidelines, using a calibrated thermometer as a reference.
Circuit Inspection:Check the alarm circuit for any broken wires, loose connections,or blown fuses.Repair or replace faulty components as needed.Test the control unit functionality to ensure it can correctly process temperature signals and trigger alarms.
III.Safety Interlocks
Common Malfunctions
Mechanical Malfunction:Safety interlocks, especially those with mechanical components like latches or levers, can experience mechanical problems. These may include parts getting stuck, misaligned due to vibration during operation,or wornout springs that fail to provide sufficient force for proper locking or unlocking.
Electrical Faults:For electricallyactuated safety interlocks, electrical faults such as short circuits, open circuits,or faulty relays can disrupt their normal operation. This can lead to situations where the mill can be started even when safety conditions are not met.
Solutions
Mechanical Adjustment and Repair:Inspect mechanical interlock components carefully.Lubricate moving parts to reduce friction if they are sticking.Realign misaligned parts and replace wornout springs or other faulty mechanical elements.
Electrical Troubleshooting:Use electrical testing tools like multimeters to check for electrical faults.Repair short circuits by isolating and replacing damaged wires, fix open circuits by reconnecting loose wires, and replace faulty relays to restore proper electrical operation of the safety interlock.
